Online Marketing - Why I Started My Business

Online Marketing

Online marketing is the fastest growing sector in the world of business today. The internet has changed not only how the world communicates, but it has also opened up a realm of a number of entrepreneur ideas that were not possible only two decades ago. The invention of the internet makes it possible for millions of people to connect across the globe, with just a click of a mouse. Furthermore, this powerful business medium is now playing a major role in building any network marketing business.

Online marketing has grown from just a few online businesses and websites, making huge money making promises to a multi-billion dollar industry where people are building online empires and helping others to do the same. Even in the midst of the current global recession, the serious entrepreneurs are continuing to create wealth for themselves as they realise the power of online marketing and they know that the world wide web is packed with people hungry for success. With online marketing, you can market anything, anytime, to anyone, anywhere in the world – very powerful!

Online Marketing - How I Got Started

Online marketing – how did my journey get started? My desire for entrepreneurship stemmed from childhood. Ever since I was 5 years old, I had a drive to run my own business. When I was playing with my friends and cousins, I preferred playing a storekeeper, using my mum’s calculator for a cash-till. I was also inspired by my mum as she worked from home selling different things.

My entrepreneurial spirit was also evident when I chose my High School subjects (Economics, Business Economics and Accounting), which I continued to study at the University. I later graduated with a Bachelor of Administration degree. I started my career with a large retail company as a graduate trainee. Some years later I then joined the world’s second largest mining company as a Human Resources (HR) practitioner, while continuing my post-graduate studies on a part-time basis.

When I got married, I had to leave my dream career and join my husband in a new country. After months of unsuccessful job applications, I was left devastated and frustrated. In the end, I took a basic, administrative position, which I disliked, to say the least. I didn’t want to return to the same job after our first daughter was born. I decided to finally free my entrepreneurial spirit.

My husband and I started a real estate business – buying properties and renting them on a single or shared let basis. The property business seemed to be a perfect long-term investment strategy rather than a source of good monthly income for us. Also, with the current ailing economy and the property slump, I needed to find another business opportunity. Little, did we know that one of our tenants would introduce me to a network marketing business.

Online Marketing - What It Offers

Online Marketing - Why I Became Involved

Online marketing has taken the world by storm and there are many reasons why many entrepreneurs are taking advantage of the online business opportunities and creating fortunes. Let me share with you why I became an online marketer:

1. Failing business: My very first network marketing business was nothing but an uphill battle. Why? Because I was using traditional offline marketing strategies trying to build my business with no results to show. I did everything I was told to do. I did as many presentations a day as I could, I chased my family and friends, I spent hours on the phone and on e-mail trying to convince people to join me or buy my products and so on. I got nowhere and I was left miserable and flat broke. I then turned to the internet in search for solutions to rescue my drowning business. I then realised that online marketing was creating a huge potential for entrepreneurs, with the opportunity to market to people all over the world. I turned my back on the ineffective, old marketing methods and embraced the power of online marketing.

2. Personal Branding: the internet is blitzed with a lot of advertising. People don’t like to be sold. So, in order to become a successful online marketer, it’s important to build your own brand. The key is to attract people towards you by constantly sharing and teaching them all the right techniques they need to build their businesses and also by helping them overcome their problems. In branding myself I have built a massive online presence by creating and putting up my content in such a way that people can find me and my business. Now my customers are interested in what I have to offer, selling my products and services on themselves. This did not happen in my traditional network marketing business.

3. Helping Others: online marketing is all about creating success and helping others to do the same. It is absolutely rewarding to see others build successful businesses and create a lifestyle of their dreams, knowing that you helped them along the way. I’m on a mission to help serious and motivated entrepreneurs to create wealth online without chasing friends and family, attending hotel meetings, buying leads, cold calling, handing out flyers and trying to sell and convince people to join them.

4. Unlimited Income Potential: a traditional J.O.B. (just over broke) comes with a set salary per month or year. You need to put in set hours to receive the salary that is decided by your employer. Are you getting paid for what you are worth? No, not at all. On the contrary, online marketing gives you the opportunity to make an unlimited income from the comfort of your home or from anywhere. In fact, you can decide how much you want to make. Your objective should be to increase your personal value to the world and your bank account will be a true reflection of that. That’s exactly what happened to me – when I started leading with value, money started rolling in!

5. Convenience: what makes online marketing even more popular is the convenience that comes with it. For example, it requires little or no capital, no employees, no previous experience, no commute and no high operating costs. As you are you own boss, you call the shots!

6. Freedom and flexibility: online marketing is appealing as it offers freedom and flexibility, which is not the case with a J.O.B. Entrepreneurs have the opportunity to work their businesses part-time and still earn full-time rewards. In fact, there is no other industry that can give you time and money at the same time. When my first daughter was born, I knew that I wanted to be a major part of her life, watch her grow and working full-time away from home, would not make that possible. Today, I am the master of my own business. I do online marketing from the comfort of my own home, while being able to raise my two beautiful daughters. I couldn't ask for more!

I do what I do for my family. It’s important to get connected to your ‘WHY’ and to keep reminding yourself WHY you are doing what you’re doing. This is your vision, misson and driving force. If your ‘WHY’ is big enough, then you’ll figure out the ‘HOW’.

Online marketing, just like any other industry, comes with obstacles and challenges and you would have to embrace that if you want to be successful. So, if your WHY is not big enough, then you’ll feel sorry for yourself, crumble and go back to your comfort zone. Discover your WHY and get ready for your journey to success!

Online marketing has allowed me to give my family a great lifestyle that most families would only dream of. Being able to do what you want, when you want, with whom you want is just priceless.

Lost my full time " Hated It " factory job, and that was after leaving another factory job that I had been with for almost 17 years ( just two months shy ) and I hated just about every minute of that also. I was diagnosed with a disease called Churg Strauss Syndrome two years ago, and while the condition is fine for the moment...it's not a cure. I started a health blog targeted towards health a little more than a year ago, and now being unemployed I have to make this type of work...work! Going to do my own e book, and start affiliate marketing in earnest on my blog. It's just my wife and I now and I want her to be able to finally enjoy her life without having to continue at her factory job. I've got a lot of work to do!

Online marketing, including writing online, certainly takes a lot of perseverance and organizational skills to develop a niche. My goal for 2011 is writing two different ebooks in addition to some fiction.

Hi Mavis,

Isn't it interesting that what seems like a bad thing (not finding a job, losing a job, moving...), can actually be the tipping point that leads to what you really wanted to be doing all along?

Thank you for sharing your story with us Mavis. It's very encouraging.
